~ OUR MARES ~
Hesta with Idocus Foal of Zondervan Farm At Zondervan Farm, we felt it imperative to start our breeding program with the best mares possible.

Dutch mares are graded at the annual inspection (Keuring) according to their conformation, pedigree, basic gaits, performance records and the same attributes of their offspring. The ratings include Studbook, Star and Keur for the mare herself and Preferent and Prestatie reflecting her offspring. There are additional ratings based on soundness and performance.

At Zondervan Farm, we set out to acquire young Keur mares or exceptional Star mares with Keur potential. We imported or acquired quality mares from the Netherlands to add to our U.S. bred mares.

At the 2000 Keuring in Houston where she received her provisional Keur designation, Mistral was named best mature mare and was praised for being a strong, modern mare with an outstanding powerful hindleg. Mistral's sire was the Dutch stallion, Olympic Vincent. On the 2003/2004 KWPN Stallion Index, Vincent is listed as Number 2 for dressage with a 196 and 76% reliability. At his performance test he received 8.5, 8.5 and 9 on his basic gaits. He had an impressive dressage career in Holland, most notably being named Dutch Champion at the 1989 Grand Prix at Haaksbergen. He has one KWPN approved son, Cabochon who was also recently awarded the Keur designation, and an approved brother, Vanitas.
Mistral's damsire, El Corona, who carries the famous genes of Amor and Doruto in his pedigree, was listed as Number 1 on the same dressage index with a 198 and 79% reliability.
Mistral's first foal (a full brother to Thatcher), Still Here, was foaled and continues to reside in the Netherlands. He advanced to the Second Ring in the KWPN Stallion Selection in 2003-2003. He was a semi-finalist in the PAVO Cup in August, 2003.

TESTJA

Darwin X Hestja

[Pedigree]

Testja is a May 2000 NA/WPN Main Foalbook filly out of Hestja (see "Mares"). She is a powerful bay who should finish approx. 16.2 H. She is very people oriented and easy to handle. The judge commented at her inspection in Houston that she was the best moving foal presented. With her lineage including Darwin, Roemer and Rampal, she should be equipped for either dressage or jumping. Testja was sired by approved NA/WPN stallion, Darwin, who was ranked 5th in the 2000 KWPN dressage index with a 178 (83% reliability). Darwin's sire, Roemer, topped that same index with a 210 (84% reliability) and was thus acknowledged as the premier producer of dressage horses. Roemer has also been very successful as a producer of jumping horses. Darwin was named 1999 SOBA leading sire of FEI dressage horses. He has over 137 offspring competing in dressage at the national levels including several placing well in USDF Horse of the Year rankings. Virginia
VIRGINIA

Broere Jazz x Lesley W

[Pedigree]

Virginia is a May 2002 NA/WPN filly out of Lesley W (see "Mares)" by the KWPN approved stallion Broere Jazz (son of Cocktail). "Ginny" is a striking chestnut with a blaze and three stockings and looks similar to her half-brother Titanium. She is independent and curious and a pleasure to watch and handle. She was presented at the NA/WPN Keuring in October, 2002 where she received a 1st Premium.

Ginny's sire, the Keur stallion Broere Jazz, showed a great deal of dressage talent at his performance test with scores of Walk 8, Trot 9.5, Canter 8.5, and Ability as dressage horse 9. He has gone on to make the most out of his natural talents by moving up the dressage performance roster. In 2002 he came in overall 4th place under Tineke Bartels in the Dutch National Dressage Championships and was selected as the alternate for the Dutch team for the World Equestrian Games in Jerez, Spain. With new rider Kirsten Beckers of the Broere Stud, Jazz has been showing at Grand Prix in 2005 with recent results of 5th in the Dutch Dressage Championships in June, Grand Prix Champion at the CDIO Rotterdam in June and 5th at CDI Arnheim in July. By virtue of this success, Broere Jazz was named to the Dressage A team for the Netherlands and will be the alternate team for the European Championships in Hagen, Germany in July, 2005.

Jazz offspring have been very successful including five approved sons, Olivi, Broere's Norway, Riant, Tango and in Germany, Jazz-Time. In the PAVO Cup for young horses in the Netherlands, Broere Norway and Patser were Champions as 4 year olds and Patser and Robin Hood were Champions as 5 year olds. Cocktail ranks 3rd on the all time KWPN Dressage Index for 2004-2005 with a remarkable 191 (86% reliability). Under rider Anky van Grunsven, he earned his Olympic title at an early age by winning the National Dressage Stallion competition in 1990 followed by the Goodwood Dressage World Cup in 1992.
